Welcome Back to School!                                                Handbook 2009-2010

School hours are 7:55 AM to 2:30 PM. Students arriving after 8:05 will be considered late and must report to the office for a late slip.

Arrival
All students will gather in the all-purpose room for Prayers, Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag and Announcements. Students arriving by car in the morning will enter in the all-purpose room via the room’s entry doors. Students arriving by bus will be directed into the north door of the all-purpose room.

Dismissal
All students will gather in the all-purpose room for afternoon prayers and announcements. Students departing by car will exit the south-side of the building and parents will be stationed in the parking lot in a “ferry boarding like” fashion. Students departing by bus will be directed by their teachers as to what bus to board.

When a Student will be Late or Absent

Parents should contact Nurse Donna Thomas at 624-1900, ext. 23 when a student will be late or reporting a student absent. Nurse Thomas will be in her office Monday through Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Whenever a child misses a day of school an absentee form must be filled out and brought into school the day of return. Absentee and medical forms can be obtained at www.bishopmchugh.com/forms.

Churchwerks

We have implemented a program called “Churchwerks.” It is an administration program that allows the parents/guardians access to their student’s grades for major assignments and test scores. This program can also be used to have interaction with the teachers through email. To get your password for this program, email Ms. Gensel. She will assign your user name and password then email them back to you. https://sis.camdendiocese.org

Honeywell Instant Alert

We have also begun using “Honeywell Instant Alert System.” This program allows the parents the ability to set up their profile so that they will be contacted, in case of a weather related difficulty or emergency, through the use of cell phone, PDA, and email.  Once you are registered, your will be able to create your own user name and password, along with other contact names that are responsible for your child/children when you are not available.

 Weekly School and PTA Communications/Forms

In an effort to be as “green” as possible, we will be communicating electronically through our email and web site.  If you have not yet submitted your email address to Ms. Gensel, please do so as soon as possible. Ms. Gensel’s email address is rgensel@bishopmchugh.com. If you are not receiving emails from the school please check your Spam file to be sure to allow our email to be received.

All forms and detailed information on the calendar can be found on the website as well. Be sure to check in once a week for the latest information.

On occasion information will be sent home with your child. Be sure folders are checked on a daily basis.

Kid Mail

Kid mail is an intra-school mailing system. The PTA, Scrip, organizers of events, etc. will use this system periodically throughout the school year to send and receive certain information. It is usually sent via the oldest child in the school.  If you plan to use this system please put TO and FROM information on the envelope with grade numbers.

Snack Time

Snacks are available to students in grades 1 to 8 every morning for 50-cents. Students are also welcome to bring in their own snacks to be eaten during snack time. Snacks are provided by the school for students in Pre-K and Kindergarten. They do not need to be purchased. Snacks are not sold on half days or days when there is mass.

Hot Lunch
Hot lunches are served during full school days for $2.35. They include entrée, salad, fruit, snack and milk, juice or water. A menu will be sent home the first of every month. Snack, milk, juice and water is available to other children who bring their lunch for $.50. Exact change is appreciated. Make a "green" effort - send your child's money in a ziplock bag with his/her name and grade on it. It will be returned the same day for continuous use.

Label It

Please label your child's lunchbox, backpack, jacket, sweatshirts and sweaters in an effort to return lost items faster.

Scrip (Grocery Gift Card Program)

Scrip, which is a portion of the PTA’s fundraising efforts, will be available each day during school hours in the main office or via kid mail. Please see Sr. Rosemary in the office for same day orders or send in a check via kid mail, attention Sr. Rosemary. Gift cards will be sent home the same day. Scrip will also be sold at every school function as well. Shop-Rite, Acme and Superfresh cards will be available in denominations of $25 and $100. Our goal is to raise $5,000 - that's $100,000 of sales of grocery gift cards. Your continuous participation throughout the year is appreciated.

Ongoing Fundraisers

Throughout the year, school will be collecting Box Tops (www.boxtops4education.com) to raise money for the PTA and Campbell Soup Labels (www.labelsforeducation) to earn merchandise for the school. Also, if you have a Target Credit Card please be sure to register Bishop McHugh Regional School to benefit from its Reward Program.
