Catholic Daughters of the Americas Awards

The Catholic Daughters of St. Joseph parish recently conducted their annual contest for our 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students. This year, instead of choosing on medium such as writing, Catholic Daughters opened the guidelines to include posters, poetry, and writing. This allowed for more individual expression and more winners in each category. Our students drew, composed, and/or wrote following the prompts of “People Who Light Up My Life” or “Jesus, the Light of the World”. The winners in the poster division were 1st place- Christiana Lipski, 2nd place- Noelle Sittineri, 3rd place- Kaitlyn Fox. For poetry, the winners were 1st place- Justin Moretti, 2nd place- Camie Allen, and 3rd place- Carlie DelSordo. In the essay division, Jenna Costello took 3rdt place, Camie Allen-2nd, and Alexis Cropper won 1st place.  Congratulations to all the winners, and thanks to both the Catholic Daughters and all the participants. You certainly light up our world.

School will reopen

New students must have a physical and updated immunization before starting school. Additional immunizations will be needed for sixth grade and Pre-K. Please check with your doctor to make sure all students are up to date with immunizations. Send any updates into school.

Your Time is Appreciated

A special thank you goes out to all of those who came in and volunteered their time for the lunch and snack program as well as helping with the Monday folders. Your help is greatly appreciated and the children enjoy your visits. We hope you will continue to volunteer your time next year.

Garden Club Makes Garden Come Alive

Our school gardens are in full bloom thanks to our clean up volunteers in May. A special thank you goes to Karen Byerly and Nancy Hart, our Garden Club co-chairs. The gardens are vibrant and alive with color. Thank you for all of your hard work.

A note from Mrs. Bravo, Spanish teacher

Our motto in Spanish class is: “Five fruits and vegetables everyday, and five vocabulary words every week!” Toward that end, I have assembled an online study guide with visual and audio prompts through trackstar.org to help the children practice the color vocabulary in Spanish. The children have been introduced to trackstar.org in class, so they will be able to access and navigate trackstar.org at home as an optional activity to help them study vocabulary.

To access trackstar.org: type in http://trackstar.4teaching.org. Directly under the “Find a Track” heading on the right side you will see “View Track #.” The track number of the color vocabulary study guide is 348963. Type that number in the box and click “Go.” The study guide Learning the Colors in Spanish will appear. Click on the “View in Frames” prompt under the “Track Description” heading. Directions for each frame will appear above each frame. Students navigate through the study guide by selecting activities from the side bar on the left.

Uniform Exchange will be available in the school during the summer months.

Lunch and Yard Volunteering

Parents are welcome to come in any day to help out during lunch recess before and after lunch as well as help in the cafeteria during any of the lunch periods. Lunches are served between 11:30 a.m. and 12:25 p.m.  The lunch schedule is as follows: PK: 11:25, K: 11:30, Grades 1-3: inside 11:45-12:25, outside: 12:05-12:25, Grades 4-8: outside 11:45-12:25, inside: 12:05-12:25. Parents do not need to call ahead of time, but will have to sign in at the office. Parents are welcome any day of the week, as often as they like. Younger siblings are always welcome.

Although family members are welcome to volunteer at lunch and/or recess on any given day, we are looking for individuals willing to take on permanent time slots for the school year. Please contact the office or see volunteer form in Monday’s folder for more information.

Dated Material

To ensure proper handling of all dated material that is sent home, please return any forms or information request by its return date. Thank you for your cooperation.

Have you heard the GOODSEARCH NEWS?

Have you heard the good news? The GOODSEARCH news, that is? Goodsearch is a search engine powered by Yahoo. Goodsearch donates money to our school for every search you make using the goodsearch homepage. It is easy to do. It doesn’t cost a thing and helps us towards our fundraising goals. Think about it, how many times a day do you or someone in your family go on the Internet looking for something. Try it. Go to Goodsearch.com, select “make good search your homepage,” type in Bishop McHugh Regional Catholic School and search and raise money for a good cause.

Uniform Exchange Program

If your child is in need of a “gently used” winter/spring uniform, please feel free to contact Hope Waldron. Hope can be reached at 263-3050. All items being received will be sent out via kid mail or you are welcome to call and schedule a pick up at the Waldron home.
