School News

In Memoriam: Barbara Byrne

It is with d
eep sorrow that we announce the passing of former Principal Barbara Byrne, a beloved leader and supporter of Bishop McHugh Regional Catholic School. Miss Byrne was our longest standing principal serving from 2004 to 2011. We asked our faculty to say a few words, and wanted to share them with you.

"Always a most generous advocate for her faculty…"

"Strong business sense, which was a benefit to a school which had not been around for a long time..."

"Led the school community through a successful Middle States Accreditation…"

"Instituted Workshop Wednesday, which was an outgrowth of the Middle States Project…"

"Great example of courage and faith as she faced her own health struggles, and most supportive of any student or family facing problems…"

"Embodiment of the Works of Mercy and the Mercy Charism in action, always treating others with kindness and respect..."

"Anyone who was a part of the Bishop McHugh Family during Ms. Byrne's tenure will recognize and remember fondly her call to be 'kind, caring, and considerate' to all. She certainly practiced what she preached."

Let us hold those words in our hearts and keep Miss Byrne and her family in our prayers.

In lieu of flowers, her family has requested that contributions be made to Bishop McHugh Regional Catholic School. Thank you, Miss Byrne. God Bless.

  Vision 2020

We have developed Vision 2020 to set Bishop McHugh Regional Catholic School (BMRCS) on the course for the next four years, and beyond. It is the result of a yearlong process that has involved teachers, staff, parents, students, alumni, community members and clergy. We reviewed best practices of other schools, included feedback from key stakeholders and consolidated ideas from committees of faculty, parents, students and alumni to create a relevant, comprehensive plan that identifies where BMRCS will be in the year 2020. Importantly, this plan is designed to be a living, breathing document—one that is reviewed annually and updated as needs change.

Note: Not all ideas presented in Vision 2020 will be able to be implemented; in some cases, they will serve as guidelines to help direct us to our overall goals.  Click here to see the Vision 2020 Report.

Professional Development

On Sept. 2, our faculty participated in professional development sessions based on their summer reading, The Power of Our Words. Grades K-5 explored Morning Meeting and the Responsive Classroom. Grades 6-8 mapped out a proactive Anti-Bullying Program based on Olweus. The Preschool discussed the Power of Our Words in the context of their new curriculum resource, ABC Jesus Loves Me. These were wonderful, productive sessions on strategies for the upcoming school year. See the links below for more information.

What is the Olweus Program?

Mark your calendar as one of our first major events this year will be the Golf Outing & Par-Tee!

We’re pleased to announce the ‘Country Western’ theme for this year’s annual Golf Outing and Par-Tee to benefit Bishop McHugh. (Thank you, Michelle, Colleen, and Jim Kelly!)

The 2015 Golf Outing and Par-Tee is scheduled for Friday, October 2, 2015 at the Sand Barrens Golf Club, 1765 U.S. Route 9, Swainton, N.J.

We golf during the day and enjoy a Par-Tee (cocktails and dinner) at night. It’s $150 per golfer (golf and Par-Tee) and $50 per non-golfer (Par-Tee only). Registration is on the Quick Link at

Because of the ‘Country Western’ theme, we welcome jeans, boots and cowboy hats at the Par-Tee. You may dress casually and comfortably.

We are currently in the process of looking for golf gifts. If you own a business or know of one that may be willing to donate, please put us in touch with them! Simply talk to Michelle Powell or email your suggestion to Thank you again, and we look forward to seeing you on October 2nd!
